Alex Tay is a composer based in London (UK).

Tay’s music – described as “wildly inventive and riveting” (Osborn) and “overflowing with beauty and poignancy” (Ko) – distils the overwhelm of existence with its pace, hyperactivity and illusions. Teachers and collaborators include Professor Julian Anderson CBE, Malcolm Singer, Colin Matthews, Christian Mason, François Xavier-Roth, the London Symphony Orchestra (Panufnik 2018 - 19), Brett Dean, Jack Sheen, the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO Young Composers’ Scheme 2021 - 22), Britten Sinfonia, Royal Northern Sinfonia, National Youth Choir, Ben Parry, Emily Dickens, Kerry Andrew (National Youth Choir Young Composers’ Scheme), Robin Holloway, Richard Causton (Kings and Churchill College Cambridge), Judith Weir and the Heath Quartet (Dartington). Most recently NMC Recordings has released 2 tracks recorded by the National Youth Choir, DEEP (HUH?!) and RainFlow’rs, which are available on streaming platforms. Tay is now working on a commission from Wigmore Hall that is to be premiered in February 2025 by Exaudi and GBSR Duo, which imagines the mania of solitude. He is fundraising to supplement the programme with commissions from Cassie Kinoshi, Joe Bates and Linda Catlin Smith.
